Snow

We don’t expect to get much snow where I live, especially not twice in three weeks!  With that said, Kevin and I thoroughly enjoyed our “snow days” as did Whaley!

I downloaded the new Waterlogue app and was impressed with how beautifully it “paints” pictures!

Fall Steeplechase

A couple of weekends ago, Kevin and I headed to Aiken for the fall Steeplechase.  We were joined by one of our favorite couples, Neely and Chad, and had a wonderful time dancing, watching the races and eating oysters.

The weekend began Friday evening with the Steeplechase gala.  It’s held in a large tent on the Steeplechase grounds, with a live band and delicious food and drinks.  The Finesse Band, who played at our wedding reception, kept everyone on the dance floor all night long.  We had a blast and didn’t take into account that we had to get up early the next morning for the races, whoops!

Photo shoot in the kitchen before heading to the gala!

The next morning we headed to the Steeplechase grounds again for the actual races.  It was a beautiful day, with five races and no hurt horses!

Later that evening, we headed to the farm for an oyster roast.  Someone brought bushels of oysters from Beaufort and they were delicious.

CMA Fest, Day 2

Friday morning we woke up and headed to Downtown Nashville to begin partying again!  There were vendors and tents everywhere, all lined down the main road.

Our first stop was the RiverFront Stage to see the Oakridge Boys and they did not disappoint!  I think my favorite was when they performed, Elvira!
The Oakridge Boys
Next, we went to a two story bar that was open all around.  We went upstairs and listened to a band from Pennsylvania.  The band was young guys, the oldest was 17 and I swear the youngest look like he was 8.  They were so good and everyone in the bar loved them!!

Our next stop was the Fiddle and Steel Guitar Bar.  Really cool place, located in an alley downtown.  Apparently, it is like the “Cheers” of Nashville.  The guy playing, Ray (can’t remember his last name – terrible, I know!), is a good highschool friend of one of the guys with us.

When Kevin and I decided to go to the CMA’s the first thing I told Kevin was that I want to buy some real
cowboy boots.  And, buy cowboy boots we did!  There were boot shops lined up and down the streets in Nashville.  Kevin actually picked my boots out for me at Betty’s Boots.  I think he did a great job; they are exactly what I wanted.  They are a beautiful chocolate brown leather with a little flair.  The detailed part is lizard and is so pretty.
We had a very nice dinner at an Italian restaurant and then headed to LP field again to see Brantley Gilbert, Jake Owen,The Band Perry, Blake Shelton, Randy Houser and my favorite, Carrie Underwood.  Everyone was so good and it was so much fun.
Our view of the stage.
We bought our tickets last minute so we didn’t have the best seats.  Apparently, people plan this trip out a year in advance – buying tickets and getting hotel rooms early on.  Not a big deal though, there were big screens on both sides of the stage and we could see those well.
Random picture of a guy wearing cut off jeans and cowboy boots.  Loved it.  There were so many guys doing this too!
We went out to the bars after the concert and had so much fun.  Of course the band at the bar was incredible and we danced and sang along to their songs all night long.  They played some country, rock, pop and anything in between.

CMA Music Festival, Day 1

Last week, Kevin and I headed to Nashville, TN for the CMA Music Festival.  We had an absolute blast, spending our time with five other couples, and celebrating a special lady’s 40th Birthday – Happy Birthday Gena!!

There were many stages spread throughout downtown Nashville where country music stars played from 10am to 12pm.  We partied all day and all night and saw more country stars than I ever could have imagined!
After we arrived on Thursday, our first stop was a really cool rooftop bar with live music, of course! (Gena- the Birthday Girl, Amy, Rebecca, me and Heather)
Kevin and his margarita, with a little Corona on the side:)

JEBtown performing at Puckett’s Grocery and Restaurant
JEBtown, a former Christian band that was nominated for a Grammy, is now making their way into the country music scene.  We listened to them while eating country food at Puckett’s Grocery and Restaurant.  Amazing food and great band!
At night, all of country music’s biggest stars performed at LP Field.  Thursday night we saw
Glen Campbell, Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Zac Brown Band, Lauren Alaina and Brad Paisley!  They were all amazing and we had a blast!
Stay tuned  for Day 2 tomorrow!

Homemade Ice Cream

My favorite part of any meal is the dessert.  I will purposely not eat all of my main course, just so I can eat all of my dessert, true story.  I know this will probably catch up with me at some point in my life, but for now I am going to enjoy dessert while I can!

I recently came across a recipe for homemade ice cream without an ice cream churn and knew that I had to make some.  I have been craving mint chocolate chip everything so decided I would make Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, and boy I am glad that I did.  It is amazing; even better that store bought ice cream in my opinion!  The possibilities of flavors are endless.  The next flavor I want to make is Krispy Kreme Ice Cream; think I may have to make it this week!

Here is the recipe for the Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, adapted from KevinandAmanda.com

2 cups heavy cream
1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 tsp peppermint extract
half a bag of mini chocolate chips (I prefer dark chocolate)
green food coloring

Whip heavy cream to stiff peaks in large bowl.  Next, add green food coloring to the whipped cream until you achieve your desired color.  In a separate bowl, whisk sweetened condensed milk, then add peppermint extract and chocolate chips; mix well.  Fold this mixture into the whipped cream.

Pour in a container and cover.  Freeze six hours or until firm.  Enjoy!

**If you make different flavors, please share them with me!

2.  I made homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream the other night and it is delicious.  It was so easy to make and is made without an ice cream churn.  I could seriously eat all of it in one sitting!

3.   Last night I had supper club with some good friends and we had a wonderful time.  Love these girls!
4.  I am going shopping this weekend and taking my mom with me.  She has great taste in clothes and I just love spending time with her.  Maybe I will share what I buy on the blog next week?
Hope you all have a nice long weekend!!!

The Bachelorette

The new Bachelorette with Emily Maynard starts tonight on ABC!!!  I will definitely be tuning in to watch the show.  She was my favorite on Brad’s season of The Bachelor and I am excited she has her own show now!  She seems so sincere and genuine and ready to find love.  She also has got a great sense of style!

My favorite outfit from Brad’s season was the black dress she wore on the first night.  It was absolutely beautiful.

Can’t wait to watch the show tonight!

Happy Mother’s Day

2. I have heard from our dog trainer a couple of times since sending Whaley to him.  She is learning quite a few commands and he told us she is a very smart dog!

3. My mom’s beautiful Siamese cat is very sick and needs prayers. He was admitted yesterday to the animal hospital with a very bad bladder infection which went into his kidneys.  He is one sick cat, but is getting all the help he needs.  Please send prayers his way.

4.  Kevin and I went to Edisto Beach for a few days this week. Edisto is such a relaxing beach.  We stayed on the back water and it was so pretty.  This was our view every morning.

Emu Oil

After posting that I use Emu Oil in my confessions yesterday, I received a couple questions about it so I thought I would talk about it today.

I first heard about Emu Oil about a year or so ago while reading an interview with Kate Walsh (Private Practice actress).  The interviewer asked Kate what her favorite beauty secret was and she said Emu Oil.  Apparently, a  makeup artist introduced her to it and she has been using it ever since.  Well, I think she is so beautiful and has great skin so I wanted to try it.  The brand she uses is from Laid in Montana Emu Ranch.  You can buy it online, but some stores also carry it.  I found mine at Garner’s Natural Life.

Emu Oil has many wonderful properties, click on this link to read more about them.

Since using it I have been amazed at what it has done for my skin.  It’s the only moisturizer I use on my face and it has done amazing things for me.  I get chemical peels and normally my face tends to peel for a few days after, but if I put Emu Oil on after my peel my face will not peel.   Also, I hate to admit it, but I get cold sores, and have my entire life.  They are horrible and always last about a week or so even when using ointment for them.  The last time I got one I put Emu Oil and a dab of ointment on it, and the next day it was gone.  I was amazed and couldn’t believe it.  I am a firm believer in Emu Oil.  Go out and buy some, you will not be disappointed!
